Abstract

Objective: To analyze how the COVID-19 pandemic has driven changes in the retail sector through technology adoption. We sought to understand organizational movements and their speed in quick adaptation in response to the effects of imposed restrictions.

Method/Approach: The collection of information for this essay was instrumentalized through reports from global consultancies.

Key Results: Key results indicate that COVID-19 has impacted the retail sector and business continuity. Investment in a robust technological base is important to counteract the effects of the pandemic and, finally, developing an innovative and agile mindset becomes inevitable in preparing for future challenges.

Relevance/Originality: The relevance of this essay lies in pointing out how the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic impacted operations in the retail sector and how companies moved by adopting technologies and making quick decisions to stay alive in this context.

Theoretical and methodological contributions: The theoretical contribution is made by highlighting the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the retail sector. This pandemic generated one of the biggest limitations of people on a global scale and with direct impacts on the business environment. Methodologically, the essay contributes to bringing new perspectives on how the retail sector has advanced in technological adoption to minimize the effects of the pandemic.
